Having been a fan of Impact Wrestling since it started one thing they have always had is an excellent tag team division. Today is no different and one team that has been on fire since they debuted is Ohio Versus Everything. The show stealing match they had at Bound For Glory proved just how good they are and we were very lucky to get an interview with one half of the Impact Tag Team Champions Jake Crist.
UWR: Were you a fan of Pro Wrestling Growing up ?
Jake: Absolutely, your standard little boy that fell in love with your cartoon world.
UWR: Where did you train to become a Pro Wrestler and who trained you ?
Jake: Bill Kovaleski. Crazy story, like most teenage boys you get into backyard wrestling. We ended up on the biggest news channel in Dayton. Bill saw us and sought us out. We ended up training in a bar in a ring that my brother built in welding class.
UWR: Who were some of your influences growing up ?
Jake: As a child Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior, also the Rockers and Macho Man. As a teen, it was RVD and Jeff Hardy. Then as a wrestler, Jaime Noble, Eddie G, and Kenya Kabashi and Terry Funk.
UWR: Are your family and friends supportive of your Pro Wrestling career ?
Jake: Absolutely. My lovely, beautiful wife Nevaeh is very supportive as she is a wrestler herself. My goal is to get her overseas.
UWR: Do you remember your first match, who was it against and what do you remember most about it ?
Jake: First match was against my trainer, Bill for a company called FCW in Piqua Ohio, 2002. Match was great for it being my first one as I trained for two years before. The shot gun blasts in the back ground after a man yelling pull.
UWR: How would you describe your character and wrestling style ?
Jake: For character think of a wrestling hipster who is one mean son of a bitch as I go by one mean hombre. I’m the type of guy who will talk shit to you while your gasping for air or just kicking you in the face while you’re down. I’m just flat out mean. The best way to describe my style would be to reference Bruce Lee, not that I am trying to compare myself to him. I’ve taken all these styles, meshed them together and made my own in the same way Bruce Lee did that with martial arts.
UWR: What is the best match you have ever seen ?
Jake: That’s an unfair question as it changes so much as I travel world and see a lot of different matches. I couldn’t pick just one.
UWR: What is the best match you have ever had ?
Jake: I could never pick just one.
UWR: What is your proudest moment from your time in Pro Wrestling ?
Jake: When I signed a contract. I solidified myself, and felt a sense of accomplishment.
UWR: If you could choose one person who is still actively wrestling that you have never wrestled before who would it be ?
Crist: Rey Mysterio Jr. Hardy Boyz and RVD
UWR: If you could choose any wrestler in history to have a match with who would it be ?
Jake: Macho Man and Eddie Guerrero
UWR: Are there any goals you have set for yourself that you have not yet achieved ?
Jake: No. I have literally accomplished every goal I set to. Now I believe in setting daily goals.
UWR: What advice would you give to someone that wants to be a Pro Wrestler ?
Jake: Find out who you are as a person to develop a character you know. Eyes and ear open, mouth shut and do what’s asked of you with a smile on your face.
UWR: Where can people see you perform next ?
Crist: Every Thursday night on POP TV (USA) and Friday on Spike (UK) for Impact Wrestling.
