Many Wrestling fans only knew Lionheart as that guy who Broke his neck in a match with AJ Styles after a Styles Clash went wrong. But since his remarkable recovery he has become an all round better performer and is now known by many fans as one of the best wrestlers in the U.K. I am a huge fan of Insane Championship Wrestling and since I started watching some of my personal favourite feuds have involved Lionheart. His battles with Jackie Polo, Kenny Williams and Joe Hendry have been some of the best rivalries in the History of ICW. While 2017 was a good year for Lionheart I have a feeling 2018 will be even better. We were extremely lucky to ask Lionheart a few questions to find out more about him.
UWR: Where are you from ?
Lionheart: I grew up in a town called Cumnock and I currently live in Ayr.
UWR:How old are you ?
UWR: Do you remember the first time you watched Pro Wrestling ?
Lionheart: I’m not sure if it was the very first, but my earliest memory of wrestling is the first time Hulk Hogan won the Royal Rumble
UWR: Where did you train to become a Pro Wrestler and who trained you ?
Lionheart: I trained at the BCW Academy with Drew Galloway
UWR:Are your family and friends supportive of your Pro Wrestling Career ?
Lionheart: Very much so yes
UWR: I’m sure like every Wrestler you remember your first match. So who was in the match ? Did it go well ? And what do you remember most about it ?
Lionheart: It was a 6 person tag team match. It was Draven Cage, Red Lightning & myself vs Kolobos, Whiplash Crash & Glacier. It was not good lol!
UWR: How and Why did you choose the name Lionheart ?
Lionheart: I have a background in mixed martial arts. My favourite martial artist was Jean Claude Van Damme. My favourite movie of his was AWOL in which he went by the name Lioneheart. This combined with seeing the same name in a wrestling magazine (for Chris Jericho who I was a huge fan of) prompted me to use that name.
UWR: You have had some great feuds over the years do you have a personal favourite ?
Lionheart: Not specifically, some great matches and rivalries with guys like Wolfgang, Kenny Williams, Kris Travis are probably the ‘feuds’ that spring to mind. Too many enjoyable matches to list.
UWR: You have probably been asked about the neck injury you suffered in a match with AJ Styles numerous times. We wanted to know what you learned from that whole experience ?
Lionheart: Don’t tuck!
UWR: You are equally as good at playing both a Bad Guy and a Good Guy but which do you prefer playing ?
Lionheart: Both are fun for different reasons, but it’s always more enjoyable being the bad guy.
UWR: What is your proudest moment from your time in Pro Wrestling ?
Lionheart: I have a few highlights. Probably my overall proudest is coming back from the neck injury as a better performer and better all round person.
UWR: Are there any wrestlers on the Indy scene you would like to wrestle that you have never wrestled before ?
Lionheart: Probably quite a list tbh. So many amazing talented individuals in the wrestling world A lot of whom are now signed to WWE/NXT.
UWR: If you could choose any wrestler in history to have a match with who would it be ?
Lionheart: The Rock
UWR: Are there any goals you have set for yourself for 2018 ?
Lionheart: Become ICW World Heavyweight Champion
UWR: What advice would you give to anyone starting out in Wrestling ?
Lionheart: There are no guarantees, and you are owed nothing. Work hard, listen to advice and be humble. The road is long and sometimes never ending. But the journey is amazing, enjoy it.
UWR: You had a fantastic feud with Jackie Polo a few years ago in ICW and after what went down at this years Square Go and the announcement that you will face him at Barramania, what are your thoughts about it and are you looking forward to this match ?
Lionheart: It’s just something I have to do at this stage in my career. That’s about as much as I want to say about it
