This was not the best show I have seen from NJPW, while a lot of the in ring action was good it was the length of the most matches, the fact most of them were meaningless tag team matches, the whole show lasting four and a half hours and the terrible commentary from JR and Barnett.
The first three matches were all pointless tag matches that had no story and no reason to take place other than to fill a spot on this show. I did enjoy the tag match with Cody & Marty against G.O.D, the battle between these Bullet Club members only added to the tensions that have been brewing over the last few months. The eight man tag that involved Los Ingobernables de Japon was entertaining because of LIJ they are all great characters and the way they work as a team is tremendous to watch. Even though he was injured I thought it was a good idea to have Rey Mysterio appear and not only that but have him sit front row to watch the match between Ospreay and Liger. I really enjoyed the match but it was the aftermath of this contest that was more entertaining. Ospreay teased a future match with Mysterio (I am personally hoping for it to take place on the Strong Style Evolved UK Tour at the Milton Keynes show if possible), then out came The Villain Marty Scurll who first hit Will with an Umbrella, he then ripped the mask off of Rey who tried to help Ospreay, finally Scurll was chased away by Liger and I’m sure this will not be the last we see of The Villain and his attempts to regain the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. The most enjoyable part of the tag match with ZSJ & Suzuki vs Ishii and Okada was the knockout shots that Ishii and Suzuki hit each other with, both looked like two drunk dudes in a bar fight but it was pretty awesome to watch. The US title match went far too long and was pretty boring for the most part. I don’t see the fascination with Jay White, I find him dull and boring both his character and in ring style are about as boring as each other. While I think Page has been one of the most improved wrestlers this year I don’t think this will go down as one of his better performances. The main event was by far the best match on the show. The story of the conflict Omega was dealing with was told perfectly by everyone involved that the actual in ring action was secondary to it. You could clearly see throughout this contest that Kenny was struggling to inflict pain on his close friends The Young Bucks but his long term friend and his now tag partner Ibushi was trying to encourage him to get the win for their team. In the end Omega realised the win and progression for their team was the most important thing during the contest but immediately after he reconciled with The Bucks. Then came Cody who added more tension to this feud with in the Bullet Club as he argued with Matt then shoved Nick to the mat. The divide is more than obvious within the Bullet Club but it seems this could now affect The Bucks and we may see them split with each member having different opinions on who they should side with. Then there is the Golden Lovers, I can see this team staying together for at least 6 months to build the relationship between the two that many new NJPW fans like myself have not seen before, then after that relationship is at its peak I can see Kenny turning on Ibushi to build up to a match between the two.
