The Prince Of Hearts Alex Cupid

There are so many extremely talented young wrestlers in Britain and we were lucky enough to interview one who has the potential to be one of the best this country has produced. The first time I saw  Alex Cupid compete he was part of a tag team called Never Say Die at a Progress Wrestling show. Since then he has not only had some very good tag team matches but he is also starting to make a name for himself as a singles wrestler with some matches that are definitely worth watching.

UWR: Where are you from ?

Cupid: I’m from Hackney London!

UWR: How old are you ?

Cupid: Im 20 years old

UWR: Growing up were you a fan of Pro Wrestling ?

Cupid: My family watched it alot when I was a baby. My brother was a mega fan! He loved The Rock and Owen Hart. So as I grew up I loved it too!

UWR: Where did you train to become a Wrestler and who trained you ?

Cupid: I started out at the Progress Wrestling School (now Knucklelocks) under Darell Allen and Jimmy Havoc. I still frequently train under Darrell as well as at different schools. I train under Gary Vanderhorne and Greg Burridge at the London School of Lucha Libre, Fight Club Pro under Travis Banks and Hustle under Savvy Sid Scala.

UWR: Who were some of your influences growing up ?

Cupid: I had lots of non wrestling influences growing up.  The urge to be the strongest version of myself comes from Elliot Hulse (dude from YouTube). Being charitable and loving to everyone comes from my family and watching kind people do….kind things.

UWR: Are your family and friends supportive of your Pro Wrestling Career ?

Cupid: Hell yeah! Family are very committed and do everything they can to make sure I can be the best wrestler I can be. Friends…..Well You find out your true friends through trials and tribulations. I have my small circle and they’re the best.

UWR; I’m sure like every Wrestler you remember your first match. So who was in the match ? Did it go well ? And what do you remember most about it ?

Cupid: First match was at a vintage steam festival….in Faversham. Dillon D’Angelo, Earl Black Junior and Alex Cupid vs Harry Sefton, can’t remember the other guys name and Gary Kenealy. We was called The Reggae Boyz Via Leeds….

UWR: For people that have never seen You perform can you describe your character and wrestling style ?

Cupid: My real surname is Cupid.I’ve been bestowed this name so I’m going to use it! I’m The Prince of Hearts! I’m 6ft1 215lbs. I am a Lover….and a fighter.

UWR: What is the best match you have ever seen.

Cupid: Too many to chose from!I’ll go with Stan Hansen vs Misawa and Gargarno/Almas

UWR: What in your opinion is your best match or opponent you have ever had ?

Cupid: As Never Say Die definitely against MnM (Mills and Mayhew). Singles? Against James Best at ACW or Sean Kustom at a charity show in Dudley

UWR: What is your proudest moment from your time in Pro Wrestling ?
Cupid: Debuting for Progress at the Electric Ballroom. It’s proving to myself that I can literally do anything.

UWR:Are there any wrestlers on the Indy scene you would like to wrestle that you have never wrestled before ?

Cupid: Tons! Top of my head:

Big T Justice
Mark Davis
Ryan Smile
Mike Bird

UWR: If you could choose any wrestler in history to have a match with who would it be ?

Cupid: Would love to team up with Junkyard Dog!

UWR: Are there any goals you have set for yourself that you have not yet achieved?

Cupid: Not specific, I just want to be good. The best even.

UWR: What advice would you give to anyone starting out in Wrestling ?

Cupid: Listen. Listen to everyone and be yourself!
