Last year was a very good one for British Wrestling. Now 2019 looks like it could potentially be even bigger. So I thought I would look ahead and talk a little about some of the big shows that have already been announced for this year in the UK.

WWE NXT UK Takeover

The first Takeover for this brand is shaping up to be a fantastic show. The Bruiserweight Pete Dunne defends the United Kingdom Championship against Joe Coffey, the first ever NXTUK tag team champions will be crowned as Moustache Mountain go up against The Grizzled Young Veterans, Toni Storm looks to win the NXT UK Women’s Championship from the very intimidating Champion Rhea Ripley,  a huge grudge match as Dave Mastiff goes one on one with Eddie Dennis in a No DQ match and Jordan Devlin versus Travis Banks in my opinion could steal the show. The Show is taking place in Blackpool at The Empress Ballroom on January 12th and will also be Live on the WWE Network at 7pm. Unfortunately we will not be attending the show live but I will be watching it live via the WWE Network.

New Japan Pro Wrestling

If you did not watch Wrestle Kingdom 13 then you may not of heard that NJPW are coming back to the UK. On August 31st at The Copper Box Arena we will hopefully get an actual NJPW show unlike the last Strong Style Evolved tour in the UK which was basically a couple of decent Rev Pro Shows. I’m sure they will be involved in this show in some capacity but hopefully not as much as last time. Yes with out a doubt we will be attending this show.

Progress Wrestling

After last years successful Super Strong Style 16 three day tournament at Alexandra Palace Progress will be holding their yearly event there again this year. It is the best tournament in Indpendent Wrestling and is a fantastic long weekend for any wrestling fan. This years event will take place over the weekend of May 4th (Star Wars Day)  . Also Progress Wrestling usually hold a big show every September. Last years was at Wembley, they may return there again or possibly look for another venue somewhere else in the UK. I am still uncertain as to whether we will be able to attend this years SSS16, I am sure we will try to attend a few Progress shows this year.

Insane Champinship Wrestling

Scotland’s number one promotion’s annual show Fear and Loathing has broken attendance records in the UK over the last few years. One thing still in my list is to head north of the border and attend an ICW show as it seems they will no longer be coming back down south, I may try to go to Fear and Loathing depending on date and location. There is also the eighth annual Square Go in February and that for me is their most enjoyable show of the year.

World Association Of Wrestling

Timing is everything in this business and The Knight Family could not of picked a better time to run a show at Norwich City Football Club’s Stadium, Carrow Road. With the release of the movie coming just before the biggest show this company has ever held you would expect quite the turn out at Carrow Road. Also throw in former Norwich City player Grant Holt having a match on the show But the one question I have is that is Grant Holt and The Knight Family enough of a draw to fill the stadium or the parts they are using for the show ?  They are saying there are other big names to be announced of course the rumours of The Rock (he is in and helped make the movie) and Paige will appear started as soon as the announcement was made. While the latter is more likely, if and that’s a big IF they could some how get The Rock  he would fill the stadium easily. But that is extremely unlikely considering his schedule. It will be a big night for WAW and The Knight Family who will probably be filling up half of the card, with at least one of them in the main event and as always they will go over strong. I will most likely be attending the show considering it’s in my home county.

If there are any other big wrestling shows taking place this year in the UK let us Know. Also we are looking for new companies to go and watch so any recommendations would be appreciated.
